HALF MARATHON FAQ
Can I park at the ship?
Yes, but parking is limited and is allowed only in designated parking spaces – period. Take the trolley to the ship on race morning if at all possible. If you park on the road or out of parking spaces at the Battleship we will have your vehicle towed at your expense or possible pushed it into the river if time is short. DO NOT PARK OUT OF DESIGNATED SPACES. DO NOT PARK ON THE HIGHWAY NEAR THE ENTRANCE TO THE BATTLESHIP. We will have your car towed and it costs $240 to get it back but the access road is part of the course. We will not sacrifice the safety of our runners in any way.

NOTE: The access road to the parking lot and Battleship Memorial closes at 7:00 AM race day and remains closed until 11:00 AM to all race related traffic. Also, if the parking lot gets full before 7:00 am you will be turned away no matter what time it is.

How Many Water Stops are on the Half Marathon course?

Six water stops are located at approximately 2-mile intervals.

Are There Bathrooms on the Course?

Yes. First rent'a'johns is at the 4.1-mile point. There will be public restrooms in the park at the 5-mile point and and at the 10.4-mile point there will be public restrooms. Ask the volunteers for directions to the restrooms if you miss the Rent-a-Johns. The public restrooms are located approximately 50 yards off the course. There will also be a rent'a'john at the 8.9 / 9.1 mile point.

Is food provided on the course?
There is no food provided on the course.

Is there an Aid Station on the course?

No, not on the course. There will be an aid station at the Battleship. If you have trouble on the course and need help, tell a volunteer and they will help you or call for the Course Control Captain to bring a truck to transport you to the Battleship. If needed, the volunteer will call an ambulance. Don't be a hero, ask for help if you need it.

Are headphones prohibited?

No, but we strongly recommend not using them. YOU are responsible for your own safety so be smart and run with all your senses unimpaired by anything, including headphones.

Are Walkers Allowed in the Half Marathon?

Yes, walkers are more than welcome but you have to walk at a 15-minute per mile pace. That is a brisk walk but is not a crazy pace. Everyone starts at 8:00 am and everyone has to be at mile-12 in three hours and 30 minutes. Mile 12 is at the top of the Memorial Bridge. If  you are not going up the bridge ramp before 11:30 am you will be removed from the course at that time. This is for safety concerns and to comply with NCDOT requests related to keeping the Memorial Bridge cones in place.

Are baby joggers allowed?

No, baby joggers or racing chairs are not allowed. The course is not safe for any type of baby jogger or racing chair. Bicycles are not allowed to pace runners at all.

This is an NCDOT "suggestion" for safety purposes. We put the race on at their discretion and respect their authority. Please do the same.

Are Racing Chairs allowed?

Racing Chairs are not permitted. The course is not safe for any type of racing chairs or baby joggers.

Is there Race Day Registration?
Yes, from 6am until 7:30 am AT THE BATTLESHIP In the auditorium. To register race day, take the ramp to the right of the stairs beside the main entrance of the Memorial and register inside the auditorium.

Is there sports drink at the water stops?

Yes. Gatorade will be provided at all water stops as well as water.

Can spectators ride the Trolley Buses?

Yes, BUT ONLY AFTER 8:00 am and until 10:00 am ON RACE DAY. After 10:00 am, no one will be taken to the Battleship, only taken from the ship back to downtown. Do not mess with the bus drivers when trying to get on the bus out of the time limits. The drivers haven specific instructions and we pay them serious bucks to work this race properly and they will. Don't be a richard.

EXPO/PACKET PICKUP FAQ's 

Can I register for the race at the Expo?

Yes, if the race is not closed out. Last year we closed out on Thursday before the race. We strongly suggest signing up early to ensure that you have a spot in the race.

 How can I get my business into the Expo?

You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or (910) 398-5539 for more information and to answer any questions you have. Expo Participants will be listed on the Race Website with a link to your site. Recognition in advertising, hard copy inserts into race packets, as well as your logo on the Race Brochure and T-shirt are available for Expo participants. Expo location is Coastline Convention Center which is a nice venue in a picturesque location. Race cap in 2012 is 2,250 for the Half Marathon and 5K combined and we expect the vast majority of those athletes to pass through the expo along with many spectators, fans and friends of runners

 

 Can I buy shoes, supplies and technical clothing at the Expo?

Yes you can. 5K Title Sponsor Outdoor Equipped will be on hand with a large display of the latest in running shoes, technical clothing and supplies of all kinds. The Outdoor Equipped sales team is made up of highly knowledgable, helpful people. They speak our language and are helpful to athletes of all levels. There will also be other runnning related businesses and fine running store reps from Omega Sports and Fleet Feet Sports to provide all types of running gear for sale at the Expo.

Can a friend pick up my packet at the expo?
 

Yes you can. They need to bring a note signed by you naming them as being allowed to pick up your packet/t-shirt/race number. Once they have your packet they have sole responsibility for getting it to you.

Can I change from the Half Marathon to the 10K or 5K at the Expo?
 

Yes you can, but no money will be refunded.

What are the shirts like?

Half Marathon shirts are long sleeved, Zorrel tech shirts. 10K and 5K shirts are also haevy cotton, long sleeved shirts.
