The "Battleship Race" includes a beautiful USATF-certified (NC13063DF) Half Marathon and precisely measured 10K and 5K that starts and finishes at the Battleship North Carolina across the river from downtown Wilmington, NC and is 9 miles from Wrightsville Beach The Half Marathon course includes three bridges and a loop around Greenfield Lake on paved running trails. The 10K also includes the three main bridges. The Outdoor Equipped 5K has a fun over-and-back across one bridge.

The Half Marathon course crosses 2 bridges, goes through historic downtown Wilmington and around Greenfield Lake with the 12-mile mark at the top of the Memorial Bridge which is the highest point on the course. (8) North Carolina Half Marathon state records have been set at the Battleship Race in our 18-year history.

6:15 AM - 7:30 am at the Battleship in the Auditorium. Take the ramp located to the right of the steps leading up to the main entrance. Go in the side door, get your packet or register inside the auditorium.


CHIP TIMING: Precision Race will provide timing services. Your timing tag is attached to your race number. The race number MUST BE WORN ON THE FRONT OF THE BODY. When you register for the race include your cell # and you will receive a text message with your time immediately after you finish.

We recommend parking in City decks. They are convenient, inexpensive, clean and easy in and out. NOTE: The downtown parking area website is an excellent resource for much more about downtown than just parking. If you are visiting from out of town this is a very good resource website.


Bag Storage on Race Day: You can stash your bag in the Auditorium at the Battleship. Go up the ramp next to the main entrance steps and enter through the single door. The room should be occupied all morning but WE CANNOT Be responsible for valuables left in bags.


Age Limit for the Half Marathon is 13 yrs old.


No Jog Strollers or Racing Chairs 

Sorry but for safety purposes, we do not allow any Jog Strollers or Crank Chairs or Racing Chairs in either race. The course is not safe for racing chairs or jog strollers.


Spectator Information:

The best way to see your friends and family run this race is to first watch them go down Water Street near the Hilton Hotel (3-mile point of the half marathon) or in any of the next three blocks on Water Street south of the Hilton. Then after they have passed you can take the River Taxi over to the Battleship and watch them finish later. River Taxis depart from in back of the Hilton from the dock.


Battleship Access Road: The access road to the Battleship will be closed from 7:00 am until 11:00 am race morning to all race related traffic. IF you try to enter the access road you will be turned around but more importantly, there will be traffic on highway 421 passing the access road and you will only add to the congestion. The access road is part of the race courses. Please do not try to drive to the Battleship.


Race transportation (Trollies and River Taxis) cannot be used by spectators until after 8:00 am. We must get the runners over to the Battleship, then spectators are welcome to use the boats & trollies. Race transportation departs from in front for trollies and in back of the Hilton for River Taxis.


Spectator Food: Snacks and drinks will be for sale at the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA Chapter 885) from the small trailer staffed by these Vets. Just bring a few bucks and buy pizza, doughnuts, coffee, drinks etc) All proceeds from sales go to the VVA to help disabled Vets.

Fans, Friends & Family: We are happy to have great spectators, family and friends of racers at the event. But race day is about the runners. They will be working hard to do this race and it's the culmination of a long training cycle and emotional investment. Please follow our simple requests and make sure you don't do anything that takes away from the Athletes Race Day experience.




Half Marathon: 1st Place M/F OverallMasters and Military winners receive running shoes courtesy of New Balance of Wilmington. Military Awards Category in the Half Marathon (M/F Active Duty & M/F Retired 3-deep for a total of 12 Military awards).


10K Awards: 3-deep in Open and Masters M/F and 3-deep age group awards.


5K Awards: 3-deep M/F Open and  2-deep M/F in age group. No Military Awards in the 5K or 10K.


MILITARY AWARDS - Only Military Entrants are eligible for Both Military Award categories and Age Group categories. Otherwise it would be as if the Military Entrants were doing their own separate race. In all other situations there will be no duplication of awards.

Retired Military means 20+ years of active duty service.


Honor Teams:

Be sure to put "Honor Team" in the name of your team when you register. We'll be able to identify your team and recognize you at the awards ceremony. 


WATER STATIONS: 6 water stops (approximately 2 mile intervals) staffed by the Boy Scouts of Wilmington, The Girl Scouts of Wilmington, Omega Sports and UNCW Athletic Training students.

BATHROOMS/PORTA JOHNS- Bathrooms are available in the Hilton Hotel at the 3-mile point in an emergency. Porta Johns are located on the course at the 5-mile point, the 8.7 mile point, and the 10.4-mile point.


SPECTATOR FOOD TRAILER is staffed by the Vietnam Veterans of America - Chapter 885. Spectator Food is sold with money going to the Vietnam Vets of America. Runners Food Tent chow is FOR RUNNERS ONLY. Spectators please bring a few bucks to purchase some good snacks from The Vietnam Vets of America. Sorry but we cannot provide free food to non-runners of any age.


LODGING: Go Here for complete lodging information. We have (4) great hotels to choose from with great features for racers and very good discount rates.


PARKING: Very little available parking at the Battleship and it's for registered racers only - show your race number on request. You MUST park in designated parking spaces at the Battleship. Arrive early and follow the attendant's directions. BATTLESHIP ACCESS ROAD WILL CLOSE AT 7:00 AM SHARP, or when the lot is full everyone will be turned away no matter the time.

There is absolutely no spectator parking allowed at the Battleship.


PARKING DOWNTOWN RACE MORNING: PARK FREE downtown on SUNDAY IN METERED SPACES ONLY until 1:00 pmMunicipal Parking Decks and Lots ARE NOT FREE, but they are inexpensive.

IF you park in ANY lots or decks, YOU MUST PAY. If you do not pay, you WILL GET A TICKET and possible be towed.  It costs $240 to get your car back if it's towed. Buba will be driving the wrecker and trust me ...... you won't get the car back until you pay cash money!!


RIVER TAXI & SHUTTLE BUSES: Two River Taxi Boats will be in service Race morning 6:00 am to 1:00 pm. Depart just south of the Hilton on Water Street. No Spectators, Fans, or any non-racer will be allowed on Race Transportation (Boats or Buses) until after 8:00 am race morning. We must get all the runners and walkers over to the Battleship before race start time and we can't do it if non-runners try to use race transportation prior to race start time. shuttle buses will depart from in front of the Hilton from 6:00 - 7:30 am and 10:00 am - 1:00 pm. Buses also depart from the Municipal Parking Deck on 2nd Street and Chestnut Street from 6:00 am until 7:30 am.


TROPHY & T-SHIRT MAILING:Trophies will be mailed for a $20.00 mailing fee. Contact the Race Director within two weeks after the race. AFTER NOVEMBER 22nd, NO AWARDS WILL BE MAILED and the 2017 race will be over.
