FAQ

The race is going to be Great! That's a fact.

As participants start asking us questions I'll add some more FAQ's. For now:

Are T-Shirts guaranteed to everyone?

Yes and No - Everyone who registers by January 6th is guaranteed a T-Shirt. We will order extra shirts based on projected total number of entries but we may run out if the rate of entries picks up as race day nears. Register early to guarantee your Beethover 15K or 5K long sleeved shirt.

Can a friend pick up my packet?

Yes. Packet pickup takes place Saturday, January 12th at Omega Sports from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm and again at the Fitness Center in Brunswick Forest from 3:00 - 4:00 pm.

Are head phones allowed?

Yes, but we strongly discourage them, as per USATF policy. You need all your senses functioning properly to help you stay safe when you train or race. Please be smart and leave your head phones at home.

NOTE: Every person that has gotten off course in our recent races has been wearing head phones. You can't hear a volunteer yelling that you are going the wrong way if you have head phones on, anymore than you can hear a car approaching you.

Headphones = Bad!!

Can I park at the Fitness Center?

Yes, but the parking area at the center will fill up early. It's better to park at the commercial area (2nd entrance on your right as you enter Brunswick Forest from highway 17) in an area away from the buildings and walk 7 minutes to the start. If you arrive after 8:15 am the Fitness Center parking area will be full for sure. Race start is 9:00 am.

Will I freeze after the race?

No, all post race activities are inside the Fitness Center. It will be warm and cozy and you can use the locker rooms to put on some dry clothes if you need to.

Can I register Race Morning?

Yes, in the Fitness Center. Arrive early to give yourself time to get through the registration process and warm up before you go out and crush it on the course!

Are dogs allowed in the race?

No. Please leave your dog at home. Then come back and race our totally dog friendly Hound Hustle 10K, 5K & 1-mile Trot with Spot on April 29, 2018.

Sponsorship

Usually each Race in the 3-Race Series is sponsored independently, but if you are interested in sponsoring all three events contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or (910) 398-5539 and we'll discuss a 3-Race Sponsorship agreement.

FAQ

1. Can I register for all 3 races on one registration page?

2. Are there hard copy entry forms available for each race?

3. Are Jog Strollers and Racing Chairs allowed in these races?

Can I register for all 3 races on one registration page?

No you cannot. It would be too unwieldy to try to put three races on one registration page. You'll need to register for each race individually.

Are there hard copy entry forms available for each race?

Yes, hard copy entry forms are available. Contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  and I can email you a registration form.

Note: If you use a hard copy entry form you still need to go to the online registration page and check out the race information. There is a finite amount of space on a hard copy form and there is much need-to-know race information on the online registration information page, and on our website for each race.

Are Jog Strollers and Racing Chairs allowed in these races?

Yes and No. Yes for our 10K's and the Novant Health Oceanside Family Medicine Oktoberfest 15K. No for the Battleship Half Marathon. The Half Marathon course has two grated bridges, some cobble stone streets, some short steep hills, and is just not safe for jog strollers or racing chairs.

Part of the proceeds of each of our events is donated to local non-profits and charities such as the Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Cape Fear Literacy Council, the Battleship Restoration Fund and other fine local organizations.

3 RACE SERIES - 10K/15K/Half Marathon:

The series consists of a 10K, 15K and Half Marathon in succession over the course of a few months. This natural progression of distances allows athletes to work up to a Half Marathon while building confidence and strength in each successive event, or you can just challenge yourself against your runnin' buddies (or yourself) at different race distances.

10K options:

Hound Hustle 10K -        April 15, 2018 in the planned community of Brunswick Forest. Hound Hustle sign up

Summer Sizzler 10K - August 5, 2018.

15K option:

Oktoberfest 15K - September 23, 2018.

Half Marathon:

Battleship Half Marathon - November 4, 2018.

All athletes who finish the 3-race Series earn a custom 28.6 Finisher Medal!

NOTE: Each series event also has a 5K option (non-series race) so your friends, family and fans can race a shorter distance and enjoy the event with you at the post race party and awards ceremonies.

NOTE 1: The Hound Hustle 10K has a dedicated early start time of 8:10 am for walkers or run/walkers and counts as a series race. Race the 5K & 10K at the 8:30 am start.

15K:

Half Marathon:

Battleship Half Marathon on November 4, 2018. Follow this link to the Battleship Half Marathon for all race info and to register. The Battleship Race is the premier half marathon in the Carolinas. This is our 20th year and we're going to make it the best one ever.

How do you know you are registered as a 3-race series entrant?

When you register for any series 10K race and the Novant Health Oceanside Family Medicine Oktoberfest 15K there will be a question on the entry form asking if you are doing the 3-race series. When you check "Yes" we will enter you in the series data base. From that point on you will receive emails directed to series athletes. At the Battleship Half Marathon there will be a New Balance tent near the finish area. Head over to the tent and they'll check you off on the roster and you'll receive your awesome 28.6 Finisher Medal.

Besides the custom "28.6 Finisher Medal" that each 3-race finisher receives to commemorate the total distance covered in the three events, the Overall M/F 1st place winners and Masters M/F 1st place winners (lowest total cumulative time for the 3 races) will receive a "3-Race Series Winner" trophy!

Note: If you do more than one series 10K, your fastest time will count in the cumulative time compulation.

Hard copy entry forms to all these events are available on request from this eamil link This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  or if you have 5 SRP 3-race Series questions let us know.

Sponsorship

Sponsorship Opportunities are available in various ways. Race Sponsorships are available in the $500 and $1,000 levels. Each level offers an excellent opportunity for you to market your product or services to a large group of people who are anxious to improve their health and fitness levels and ready to invest in that wise pursuit. Contact us for particulars if you are interested in any level of sponsorship.

In 2011 we moved to a great new Expo/Packet Pick Up area - the Coastline Conference Center, and are able to offer many more exhibitors the opportunity to be part of our expo. This venue is a great place to market your products or services to a huge segment of the Wilmington and surrounding area populations composed of people who are health conscious, ready to try new products and services, and have the funds and desire to purchase goods and services related to personal fitness and health. We are allowing 2,250 runners and walkers to participate in our event this year and expect well over 2,500 people to attend the Expo during it's 6-hour duration.

Expo Sponsorship is $250 and includes the opportunity to put a hard copy flyer or product sample in our 2,200 race packets, one of which will go into the hand of each athlete who does our event.

Note that we donated over $13,000 to our race charities last year, some in exchange for these organizations helping to staff or support various parts of the race. Your sponsorship will contribute to us being able to donate like sums this year and in year's to come, and will certainly build good custom relations for your company with these organizations and the huge number of runners and walkers who do our events.

Volunteer Info

The race could not happen without our great volunteers. If you are not participating as a runner or walker, join the race by volunteering and helping to make our event great for the runners and for our beautiful city. I guarantee you will have fun.

All volunteers will receive a coveted volunteer t-shirt and will be an indispensable part of putting on the race and raising money for many local charities. Our goal for 2012 is to donate $10,000 to our race charities.

If an organization or group will provide a specific number of volunteers, we will donate an agreed upon amount of money to your organization in exchange for volunteer support. We need volunteers on Sunday mostly with some on Saturday at the race Expo. The time frame required is somewhere between an hour and a half up to three plus hours, depending on your job and personal time constraints.

Last year our Volunteer Groups included the Cape Fear Literacy Council, Vietnam Veterans of America, several UNCW groups, the Boy Scouts of Wilmington, as well as several other fine organizations. We also had community service groups such as the Ashley HS soccer team helping with the race to obtain required community service hours.

CAPS HAVE BEEN LOWERED FOR THE RACE THIS YEAR: Due to the boat dock at the Battleship being out of service for replacement in 2017, we will not have boats to transport runners to the Battleship on race morning. That is a huge loss in transportatioin capability so  - In order to ensure that we can get all the registered runners to the ship on time for race start, we are going to have to cap the race at (1,100) Half Marathoners, (185) 10K runners and (100) 5K runners. We apologize but it takes a finite amount of time to make a round trip to the Battleship from downtown. We have doubled the number of buses we have but loading and unloading takes a certain amount of time too. We will not compromise the safety of runners or the on time start of the race so these caps are the only way to ensure the integrity of the race.

The Half Marathon course crosses two bridges over the Cape Fear River, goes through historic downtown Wilmington, tours beautiful Greenfield Lake, and returns to the Battleship via the Memorial Bridge with the 12-mile point being the highest point on the course at the top of the Memorial Bridge.

The 10K also goes over the same two bridges, goes through downtown on the same course as the Half Marathon. The at Mile-4 the 10K course crosses Front Street and heads up the onramp to the Memorial Bridge. At the same point (Mile-4) the half marathon course turns right onto Front Street and continues to Greenfield Lake.

The Battleship 5K starts at the same point as the Half Marathon and 10K, only 10 minutes later. 5K runners go 75 meters and turn left going down Battleship Road for 0.4 miles, do a U-turn and head back to the access road in front of the Battleship and turn left. At 1.3-miles 5K runners turn right on highway 421, go over the bridge, do a U-turn and head back toward the access road and turn left heading back to the Battleship. The 5K finishes at the end of the access road. Fun course with a bit of a bite to it!

Spectator Information:

The best way to see your friends and family run this race is to first watch them go down Water Street south of the Hilton Hotel (3.5-mile point of the half marathon) or in any of the next three blocks on Water Street south of the Hilton.

Battleship Access Road: The access road to the Battleship will be closed from 7:00 am until 11:00 am race morning to all race related traffic. IF you try to enter the access road you will be turned around but more importantly, there will be traffic on highway 421 passing the access road and you will only add to the congestion. The access road is part of the race courses. Please do not try to drive to the Battleship.

Race transportation (River taxis and trollys) can be used by spectators after 7:50 am. Getting the runners to the prompt 8:00 am start is our prime concern. Race transportation departs from in front of the Hilton Hotel on Water Street.

Spectator Food: Snacks and drinks will be for sale at the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA Chapter 885) from the small trailer staffed by these Vets. Just bring a few bucks and buy pizza, doughnuts, coffee, drinks etc) All proceeds from sales go to the VVA to help disabled Vets.

Volunteer Info

The race could not happen without our great volunteers. If you are not participating as a runner or walker, join the race by volunteering and helping to make the race and event to remember for the runners and for our beautiful city. I guarantee you will have fun.

All volunteers will receive a coveted volunteer t-shirt and will be an indispensable part of putting on the race and raising money for many local charities.

If an organization or group will provide several volunteers, we will donate an agreed upon amount of money to your organization in exchange for volunteer support. We need volunteers on Sunday mostly with some on Saturday at the race Expo. The time frame required is somewhere between an hour and a half up to three hours, depending on your job and personal time constraints.

Last year our Volunteer Groups included the Cape Fear Literacy Council, Vietnam Veterans of America, several UNCW groups, the Boy Scouts of Wilmington and the Girl Scouts of Wilmington.

Please contact Ed Fore for more volunteer information.
